Thirsties: Fab Wipes / Booty Luster / Booty Love Review & Giveaway

The great switch to cloth wipes is upon us... and by us, I mean me, because my husband still doesn't seem fully committed. I'll write more in a separate post about the apprehensions we are feeling and the challenges we are facing, along with the perks and positives from switching to cloth wipes. This review will focus on the specifics about the Thirsties brand cloth wipes and accessories, not just using cloth wipes in general.

If you read my Thirsties Fab Fitted, Duo Wrap, and Hemp Insert review, you know how much I love Thirsties! They make cloth diapers and accessories that are eco-friendly, made in the USA, and sourced locally. The customer service I have received at Thirsties is top-notch, and I'm excited for the opportunity to bring you another review of their products.
For the past month we have been using Thirsties Fab Wipes, Booty Luster, and Booty Love.

My Review
Fab Wipes - Washable baby wipes; cost-effective & eco-friendly alternative to disposable wipes

Material. Thirsties Fab Wipes are two sided. One side is velour (85% cotton 15% polyester), and is what I consider to be the 'starter' side for getting the messies cleaned up. It helps you get a thorough clean because it is gently textured. The other side is microfiber (100% polyester) and it's great for finishing off baby G's diaper change in a buttery smooth manner. I think the quality materials and plush feel of the Fab Wipes set them apart from using baby wash clothes as wipes.

Fab Wipes: Ocean Blue, Meadow, Mango, Honeydew, White, Meadow
Booty Luster, Booty Love
Colors. There are two color bundle options--Thirsties labels them as boy and girl packs (each Fab Wipe bundle comes in a 6 pack). The boy pack is considered to be gender neutral, so that's what we have, even though baby G is a girl. I plan to cloth diaper (and now cloth wipe) all of our babies, so I'm trying to keep the majority of our stash gender neutral. In both packs you get one each of Honeydew, White, Ocean Blue, Mango. To round out the boy pack you get 2 Meadow wipes, while the girl pack is completed with 2 Orchid wipes.

Size. The Fab Wipes come in an 8 x 8" square size. This seems to be the consistent wipe size for the various brands I have been researching (although a few offer 10 x 10" squares). I have found the size to be perfect for cleaning up both wet and dirty diapers, with just one Fab Wipe (I've learned to be efficient with my wipe/fold method). I really like the surged, rounded edge--I think it is more useful than a squared edge.

Durability. The quality of all Thirsties diapers I've tried is second to none, and the Fab Wipes are no different. They are holding up great to daily use; they feel just like when I took them out of the package. I expect they will last through G's diaper days and our next baby, too. The best thing about the Fab Wipes is that they are 2-ply. I trust them to always get the job done while cleaning up G's diaper area. I love that I can use just one wipe, versus 2+ that I would use with disposable wipes.

Washing. I throw the wipes in the pail with our diapers until washing day, and then they get washed together. I have not sprayed the wipes off before tossing them in, but they come out looking just like new anyway. Thirsties' washing instructions for the Fab Wipes are the same as for their diapers, so rest assured following your normal routine.

Booty Luster - Solution mist for use with cloth wipes; aids in gently cleaning baby's diaper area

Ingredients. Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, water-based Extract of Coconut, Honey, Grapeseed Extract, traces of Glycerin, Avocado Oil, Humectant Moisturizers, and other Organic Ingredients. Thirsties Booty Luster is free of petroleum, alcohols, animal products, parabens, sulfates, DPGs, or any dilutants. It is never tested on animals.
I love that the Booty Luster offered by Thirsties is completely non-toxic and contains natural ingredients. I know a lot of cloth diaper moms make their own wipe spray, but I trust Thirsties to provide me with a product that is natural, safe for my baby and convenient to use. Just remember to shake the bottle before spraying to blend all the ingredients back together!

Cleansing Capabilities. Booty Luster is formulated to restore the skin's natural barrier against bacteria, without irritating it. It has not caused baby G any redness on her sensitive skin. I like that it loosens dirty messes gently, so that when combined with the Fab Wipes, it's able to clean her without me having to rub her raw.

Scent. The only thing that I don't love about the Booty Luster is the scent. It doesn't smell bad at all, it just takes some getting used to. I think it may be the coconut, because I'm not a huge fan of that, but you may love it. Regardless of your scent preferences, we can all be glad that Thirsties doesn't include unnecessary ingredients to add a special fragrance to the Booty Luster.

Booty Love - Cloth Diaper Safe Ointment; certified organic

Ingredients. Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Beeswax, Oregon Grape Root, Myrrh Gum, Yarrow Herb, Calendula Flower
I love that it's certified organic and I can clearly understand the above ingredients...nothing unnatural about this ointment. The ingredients make Booty Love very easy to smooth on, and I only need about a nickel-sized amount to cover G's diaper area.

Rash/Redness prevention. Baby G used to get pretty red in some diapers, and she's had some bad looking rashes (never the open sore kind though, thank goodness). I think all of that was mostly due to our detergent build-up that we have since fixed. But even after switching to our great cloth diaper safe detergent, G still got a little red or occasionally rashy. Using Booty Love cures that. I smooth some of this ointment on her diaper area and the redness is cleared up at the next diaper change. It soothes her skin and helps to prevent rashes from occurring. She hasn't had a rash since we started using it.

Cloth diaper safe. I used to put G in disposables when I had to use rash cream. It seemed like the only way to protect my cloth diapers from losing absorbency due to diaper rash cream that wouldn't wash out. I was sooo excited when Thirsties sent me some of their new Booty Love because it is cloth diaper safe!! It washes out clean and doesn't leave residue on the diapers. No more disposables or Destin for us! Plus, how fun is the name--when I ask my husband to hand it to me, I get a kick out of saying "Boooty Luuuuv."

You can purchase Thirsties Fab Wipes, Booty Luster, and Booty Love from many retailers; see their "where to buy" tab. Check out Thirsties' website to request or download the current catalog so that you can find out all about their awesome diapers and accessories. I got one with my accessories, and I have to tell you, there is something so fun about browsing fluff on paper (especially when it's VOC free and made from post-consumer content)! Thirsties also has an active Facebook page.

  8. I currently use mainly cloth wipes, but I only have 16 so it doesn't last me from one wash day to the next. The ones I have are homemade, I just serged baby washcloths to pieces of an old flannel receiving blanket. I love mine, but I would love to try some of the commercially made ones too!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I would like to try the fab fitteds. I have never used fitted diapers as of yet.

    ReplyDelete
  83. We do use cloth wipes and I love them! It's way easier to wrap up the wipe in the diaper and throw it in the washer than have to go through dirty diapers and put the wipes into the garbage. My favorites are the Itti Bitti wipes and the Thirsties wipes. I think they are very similar.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm interested in learning more about the new Thirsties Duo AIO diaper they just debuted! Looks awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I use cloth wipes about 24% of the time. I have a large assortment including Kissaluvs, Thirsties, BG, and mostly ones that I made that are flannel on one side and a soft cotton courdoroy on the other. I havn't gotten the hang of them for poopy messes mainly blame it on not finding a solution I prefer yet I think!

  87. I currently use cloth wipes. We tried commercial for a while and they just weren't gentle on my guy's skin. I'm not sure what the brand is. They're made from organic cotton made by a local woman.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I use thirsties wipe right now and they are amazing! I only have a few of them so the rest of the time we use baby wash cloths. They are not as nice as thirsties wipes at all!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I would love to try out one of the new fitteds!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I do use cloth wipes, and I love them. Sposie wipes drive me crazy, tearing as the come out of the container. Cloth wipes I can warm under the tap as I need them, and it only takes one or two for a big mess whereas it would take 5 sposie wipes. I think mine are Eli's Wipes mostly, but I have had most of them going on 6 years now, so I can't really remember!

    ReplyDelete
  91. I would love to try the Thirsties duo diaper in the hoot color. It's cute and I love sleeve diapers, so I'd really like to try this one.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I don't use cloth wipes right now. I guess the reason I don't is because I'm just in the habit of using disposables, as bad as that is. Occasionally, we use a washcloth and warm soapy water.

    ReplyDelete
  93. We don't, but only because our LO isn't here yet! I'm in the middle of making some from quartering inexpensive washcloths
