After a few weeks absence due to moving, I present to you... our meal plan for the week. I am actually looking forward to getting back into a routine. I think it will make the stress of being in a new part of the country seem less noticeable. I wonder if I am the only one that loves having a grocery shopping routine. I truly enjoyed the stores in our old town and I miss the routine I had down. It's odd being in a new place with NONE of the stores I used to love shopping at (except Target, thankfully).
Instead of Price Chopper, Hen House, Hy-vee, or Aldi; I can choose from Safeway, Raley's, WinCo, and Lucky. From my experiences so far, I prefer Safeway--although I much prefer any of the first four over the latter. The main thing I don't like is the unfamiliarity I feel when entering the stores. I'm not quite sure where things are and haven't figured out what things are cheaper or better quality at which store. Maybe I will grow to like our new stores, but for now, I miss "home." The prices are a little bit higher on many things, but are also, surprisingly, lower on a few. I was most excited to find a great selection of organic produce at Safeway & also store brand honey whole wheat bread!
We went to a great farmer's market on Saturday and scored some mushrooms, grapefruit, juicy tomatoes, yummy carrots, delicious lettuce, and my favorite--homegrown CA oranges. We also got some arugula for the recipe I made yesterday.
I made this on Sunday and it was so good! Different from what I normally make :-) |
Monday - BBQ beef sandwiches, roasted potatoes & carrots, salad
Tuesday - leftover Braised Beef & Arugula Pasta, salad
Wednesday - leftovers from Monday
Thursday - Oven Fried Chicken with Panko & Parmesan with a side of rice, salad
Friday - fish & fries, veggies (Lent classic)
Saturday - leftovers
Sunday - frozen pizza :-)
