Catholic Family Gifts Review & Giveaway

Several weeks ago, I was approached by a lovely online Catholic store. They offered me the opportunity to review an item for Letters from Momma. There was a lot to choose from, but I ultimately decided on something for G that I knew she would treasure as she grows up.

I chose a pale pink music box that has an insert card with the night time prayer my husband has said with our daughter (Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep--we say a variety of prayers at night). The melody played is Brahm's Lullaby.

The Sankyo music mechanism is visible through a clear protective plate, and I think that's G's favorite feature--aside from the actual music itself. She enjoys opening and closing the box to check if it's still turning. Thankfully, the craftsmanship seems sturdy enough to withstand a toddler's gentle force. I wouldn't recommend letting a super-rambunctious child alone with it, but G's mild-mannered enough that, under supervision, she can play with it to her heart's content.

There's a little velvet-lined compartment inside, perfect for a few pieces of jewelry, rosaries, or other keepsake items. The prayer card is removable, so a personal photo or message may be inserted into the cover of the music box. I like to think that music boxes are timeless, so perhaps my future grandchildren might even enjoy this item!

This particular gift may not seem Catholic specific, but most of the other options are. My back-up choices were a wooden 'die' that had several different meal prayers on it or a large wooden bead rosary for children. I still might end up buying the rosary for G and NB, but perhaps they'll get them as gifts ;-)
