Songs that Mean Love to Me {right now}

Betty Beguiles, a blog I occasionally see (mostly due to Mandi @ Catholic Newlywed), is doing a link-up for your love song playlist. I should be blogging about being 15 weeks pregnant (because #2 deserves the same pregnancy memories as #1), but because I recently found a new favorite song that is absolutely adorable and full of love, I must join in this link-up! I hope you will check out my songs below and also the other lists linked up! My list might be a little less traditional for 'love' songs, but it's songs that make me think of my husband, our past, our future, and our present.

So, my new favorite song is Josh Turner's Find Me A Baby. I don't think it's released yet, it's on his latest album. Here is a fan youtube video (song + lyrics). Seriously...I could listen to it all day. LOVE LOVE LOVE

10 Day YOU Challenge - Day 2 / Spinnin' Saturday

Today's challenge calls for 2 songs. It also happens to fall on Saturday...so I can count this as Spinnin' Saturday--which I have not done in a few weeks (mostly due to lack of participation, but also I didn't really have many songs stuck in my head).

Song 1: Ba Ba Black Sheep, have you any wool? Yes sir, yes sir, 3 bags full. One for the master, and one for the dame and one for the little girl who lives down the lane.

This is a nursery rhyme I sing often for G... I often switch the typical "boy down the lane" for the more appropriate "girl down the lane" :-) It's usually stuck in my head because I sing it a lot!

Song 2: My husband and I danced to Johnny & June by Heidi Newfield for our first dance almost 3 years ago at our wedding. We both liked the song lyrics and the meaning behind it. Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash had a rough start, but were each other's counterpoint. They lived a full life and died within 3 months of each other. I can't imagine my life without my husband--and neither of us want to be here without the other.

Spinnin' Saturday: A Little More You

This week's song is "A Little More You," by Little Big Town.
In our new (to us) car, I only have a 1 cd disc player, instead of the six I was used to in the Honda (bummer). Because of that, I tend to listen to the radio a lot more. When songs that I've heard a lot come on, I tend to change the station, in favor of newer songs that I'm still learning to sing along to. "A Little More You" is not one of those songs. I listen to it every time!

2007 summer

I listened to "A Little More You" a lot when my husband and I were still dating. We were really in love, but the situation was pretty tough on us. How could we be so young, but so in love? It caused one or both of us to question it several times, and occasionally we would hold back, or withdraw from the relationship. Sometimes we just needed a little more of each other.

I like the intro the best...that's probably why it catches me any time it's on---

Don't you wanna dive on in, yeah the water feels right
Dancin' on the edge of the love you're a beautiful sight

Spinnin' Saturday: My Little Girl

Yes, another attempt at getting Spinnin' Saturday off the ground. We had one other link-up last week, so that's progress. I guess no one really likes writing about songs stuck in their head?? Oh well, I do!

This week I'm singing along to "My Little Girl," by Tim McGraw. This was actually the song that my dad and I danced to at my wedding. I used to think of it in terms of me as the little girl. With G in the picture, I now think of the song as her and my husband. It gets stuck in my head every time I hear it--especially the chorus:

you beautiful baby from the outside in, chase your dreams but always know the road that will lead you home again, go on take on this whole world, but to me you'll always be...my little girl...

When I hear this verse:

Someday, some boy will come and ask me for your hand
But I won't say "yes" to him unless I know, he's the half
That makes you whole, he has a poet's soul, and the heart of a man's man

I think of how my husband is the half that makes me whole, and then wonder how anyone could be that to G? Someday I suppose she will be in love, and that will be so hard to accept! She's our little girl and no one will ever be good enough!! Thankfully, my parents "let me go" and got rewarded with a great granddaughter ;-)

Spinnin' Saturday: Hallelujah

This week G and I were listening to Pandora Lullaby and what I consider to be "our song" (G and me, not me and my husband) came on. As the title indicates, our song is Hallelujah. I know the song is about a man and a woman. So, why is this our song??

When I was pregnant, my husband and I took Bradley birth classes. The Bradley Method is also known as husband coached childbirth. It is about achieving a natural/unmedicated birth through relaxation and spousal support. I highly recommend the program. One of the best parts of the class was interacting with other pregnant couples--it just makes you feel like you aren't alone. Our instructor was fantastic and the other couples in our class made 12 weeks of classes fun and interesting. We learned all there was to know about pregnancy, labor, and birth. I felt very prepared for our unmedicated midwife (in a hospital setting) birth. I'll write more about this in another post, because I'm straying from the point of this post!

When thinking of how I could best relax for labor, music was near the top of the list. Throughout my final weeks of pregnancy I compiled a playlist of great songs that relax me. Although they never really got used at home or in the hospital (I just got in the zone and didn't need/want music), the car ride was filled with one song. Hallelujah has such a great melody and the lyrics are entrancing. I can still, very vividly, remember the car ride there (complete with seeing a cop in the median at ONE AM waiting for speeders). We got lucky on a few stop lights. The roads were pretty clear. The car was warm even though it was pretty frigid outside. I stared at the sky and the stars. We didn't really talk, except for me to mention a contraction was ramping up. I had one getting into the car, two in the car, and one getting out of the car. All of those memories come flooding back every time I hear Hallelujah. 

It's even more special when I'm listening to it while holding G. She's so amazing, I'm quite speechless when trying to describe just how I feel about her. It transcends love. Singing along with the song to her helps me release some of the emotions I have from being her mother. It's more about the melody and the way the song makes me feel, less about the lyrics.

I hope you can understand what I'm talking about... surely some other mother out there knows what I mean about the inability to fully describe how much they love their babies... and Hallelujah encompasses many of those feelings because of song's connection to her birth.

Spinnin' Saturday Link-up: Third Eye Blind

Last week I had one submission, other than my own! This is progress :-) I hope more people get excited about this linky as time goes on...Music is always spinning in my head, and I just know there are others who want to share some tunes with the rest of us!

This week I found myself humming "Water Landing" by Third Eye Blind. Yes, that Third Eye Blind of "Semi-Charmed Life" and "Jumper" fame. They are still around (well, kind of). They've gone through a lot of line-up changes, where basically only the lead singer is the same. Their most recent album came out in 2009 and is overall fantastic.

A funny story about this song:
I was singing along to it for weeks without knowing the title of the song (otherwise this never would have happened). My husband and I were discussing it, and he said, "what do you think they are saying here?" I said: "I think it's World Un-ending." Husband: "I think it's Water Landing." Me: "I'll look it up...........yeah, I guess that's why the song is called 'Water Landing.'" I felt like an idiot, because 3EB has been my favorite band for years. My bad :-)

Third Eye Blind songs can often be interpreted in many ways, depending on the listener. I believe this song is about how it takes something really drastic to get this particular girl to actually admit her feelings and take a stance on the relationship (as in, not half-in, half-out).

While I am very secure and happy in my marriage, this song is a reminder that every day is a gift and shouldn't be taken for granted. You never know when your time will be up--enjoy each day!!! Oh, and it's really catchy ;-)

Spinnin' Saturday link-up: Josh Turner

Please tell me you know who Josh Turner is. He's a lot more popular now than when I first started liking him (2 years ago).

Simply put, he is a country music hunk. His voice just gets to me. It often sends shivers down my spine. OOOOOHHHHH he is such an amazing country singer. He's a great guy too! I've seen him do interviews with his family right there, you can just tell he's a great husband and dad. Therefore, even more sexy. My husband knows that if Josh Turner came to my door and asked me on a date (obviously not going to happen), I'd say yes in a heart beat. He is #1 on my celeb crush list (the others are Matt Lauer, Bobby Flay...so yeah, my taste is a bit older--LOL).

So here's the song that's been spinnin' around my head this week. "All over me"

I searched and searched but could not find the official video for this song. I thought about doing another song because of that fact (he has so many I love), but this is the one stuck in my head. So please excuse the fact it's a live video, not even shot by me...so I totally have no rights to it. Just listen & enjoy!

Load up your boat, get your girl if you've got one, nice little breeze gonna blow! Such a fun summer song! My husband is boat obsessed and we both love being on the water, I always think of us when listening to this song (even though I'm secretly thinking about Josh Turner, hehe)

Spinnin' Saturday

I think I will start a new tradition around Letters from Momma. On Saturdays I will post a song that is spinning around my head. First up, an oldie--but a goodie! The lovely Shania Twain. When my sister was here at the beginning of the week, I made her some cds for her drive back. She needed some country jams, as she was attending a rodeo later that evening. She had been in a 'no-country' zone for a while, but I, for one, am glad she's out of it. Now, I realize country music isn't for everyone, but I think all the ladies in the blogosphere can agree with this song!
