Cloth Bottom Baby plus Giveaway

Recently a co-worker from college reached out to me regarding her new cloth diaper clothing line. When our kids were young(er) we messaged specifically about our cloth diapering and other natural-parenting choices we share. I appreciate that she values my opinion :-)

She wanted to send me some of Cloth Bottom Baby's new clothes to try out with baby J. So glad G is potty trained and need not participate in this review.

a happy Cloth Bottom Baby selfie
Cloth Bottom Baby started because famous name brand clothes are no longer made with cloth diapered babies in mind. Sure, many years ago it was the norm for babies to be in cloth diapers, but nowadays it's still pretty rare except with us hipsters, frugalistas, or crunchies. Thus, clothing companies have changed their patterns and styles to fit over thin disposable diapers that are so popular. Which leaves us CD-parents with two options (okay three, if you count using cloth diapers as bottoms themselves, which isn't realistic in Kansas winters).

The first is to buy a size or two up. That's usually what I've done for shorts and pants, and it's really unfortunate because they are too long or loose if I do end up using a disposable for some reason. The onsie situation is tough because if it's big enough to stretch over the cloth diaper bubble booty, it's often too big in the belly width or shoulders and it hangs off the baby on the top. That can be a safety risk, but it's also just a silly look on the baby. Or again, say you do use a disposable diaper for some reason (or an ultra-trim fitting cloth diaper), then the bigger onesies are rendered useless.

Then there's option two, which is to buy regular size clothes and just stretch them out by squishing baby and cloth diaper into them. That deteriorates the life of the clothes by ripping seams, threads, fabric, and hurting the quality of the item. Not to mention hurting any future resale/hand-me down possibility from said squishing.

Famous Brand on top, Cloth Bottom Baby on Bottom, both size 12-18m
Cloth Bottom Baby was also founded with the knowledge that a lot of cloth diaper moms chose to avoid disposables as a way to limit their babies' exposure to chemicals. Therefore, Cloth Bottom Baby uses organic cotton in their products.

I've gotten an opportunity to try many of their current products with J, and we love them. Here's why;

They are soft. That's the first thing I noticed when I opened our package. Just like we all love super soft cloth diapers for our babies' bottoms...Cloth Bottom Baby provides that for the rest of their bodies. It's a high GSM (grams per square meter) organic cotton, which is basically saying it's a high quality product.

snaps on the romper
They have patent pending adjustable settings and wider contours to accommodate trim thru triple stuffed cloth diapers. I've seen onesies that have "grow with me" snaps but Cloth Bottom Baby onesies has more space between row snaps and the wider cut makes for an unmatched fit. They wanted to make onesies that your baby can wear no matter what diaper you end up putting on them. Say you start out with a trim Tots Bots but then go with a double stuffed Bum Genius at nap time--because of the snap options, the onesie will fit your baby the same!

J wearing appropriate length / wedgie-free Cloth Bottom Baby Pants
The pants are roomy and the right length. For pants to be the right length for J, I need them to be right around his age (9 months). But for them to fit over his cloth diapers, I need them to be 12 or 18 months. If I do use a 9 month pant, it squishes his waist and creates a super-wedgie for the poor kid. Cloth Bottom Baby pants are my go-to choice now that it's finally getting cooler out. There's a legging option for girls...which is great because typical non-cloth diaper leggings are so "slim" fitting that they look ridiculous over cloth diapers.

They have rompers. The fit of the rompers are my favorite because I, like a lot of moms, can usually get away with buying the next size up onsies, but rompers....well the next size up for them can either result in a fabric-swimming baby or still squished bottoms, depending on the cut. And I really like rompers, they're so practical and cute, not to mention comfy for the baby. So J's already worn that for a play date, to the park, and to church.
love this romper!

The hang tag comes embedded with wildflower seeds so that you can plant it! Even my often hard-to-impress husband said, "now that is pretty cool!" Plus the logo is adorable--the cloth diaper looks like a little owl.
