Seven Quick Takes (vol 6)

--- 1 ---

Fun things the baby has done lately:
The other day we were on the floor playing with G, I gave my husband a mini-back massage. She came up to him and started trying to rub his back too! She gave him a few pats. It was too cute. I wish I had gotten a picture of it.
I've been trying to teach G how to blow kisses, or at least to make kissy faces. Yesterday I was pretty close to her face making smacking noises with my lips pursed, and she leaned in and gave me an open-mouth lip kiss!! I died laughing it was so precious!

I forgot to post about this earlier...
Remember the Advent goal of making Christmas cookies for the staff in the church office (and also my husband's work)? Well we got a really nice thank you card from church and I got TEN dollars from one of my husband's co-workers for the cookies.
I've always wanted to open a bakery.

This week was pretty tumultuous in our house. It started last Saturday when baby G woke up with a low grade fever that progressed to 102 by the end of the day. We gave her medicine before bed to bring it down. The next morning she spiked a 103 fever, and we skipped church. I feel bad about that, especially since it was the feast of Mary, Mother of God...but we were seriously on the verge of taking her to the ER. "Thankfully" the medicine brought it to 101. She also developed a lot of congestion Sunday and Monday, but her fever was gone by Tuesday. Tuesday also started what I can only call 'teething hell' (TH). From 3:30 to about 5:45 was the hardest 2 hours on record. I tried everything I could within the walls of our apartment (because she was still kind of sick, I didn't want to take her out), but nothing worked. Finally a stroke of genius hit and I put a frozen peach in one of those mesh feeders, it took a few minutes but that seemed to ease her gum pain. Wednesday she back to normal, as far as sickness is concerned, but was still in TH. Yesterday she developed a bad diaper rash. I don't know if it's all related, but the new year can only go up from here.

This week I made my favorite homemade chicken & dumplings. There is just something so comforting about making and eating them. I'd have to say they are my favorite food...which is hard to pin down because I love so many foods.
--- 5 ---
I've started planning a bit for G's birthday. It falls on Ash Wednesday (her 12th birthday too--bummer), so we are having a little party the Saturday before with a Pooh cake, a few friends, & some party favors. I'm trying to figure out if I should serve snacks, offer simple games/toys, or what else... I'll probably play some fun music for them to dance to.
On Sunday, the baby and I are going to my parents, because my husband will be out of town on business for 4 nights. So, she will get a mini-party on Mardi Gras at their house too! I'm really nervous about driving 6 hours alone with her.... I'll need serious prayers for that one.

I can't get over how adorable this picture is!! Taken yesterday, she's wearing her new leg warmers and reading one of her Jesus books.

Shameless plug: I'm holding two cloth wipe giveaways right now because we recently made the switch to cloth wipes. It's a lot cheaper, and not nearly as hard as I originally thought. If you have a baby in diapers, or know someone who does.... consider entering the Planet Wise flannel wipes and wipe pouch giveaway & the Bummas cloth wipe giveaway!

  4. Don't feel bad about missing Mass when you have a sick baby. God understands, and the Church does too. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church, article 2181 says "The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor." Your reason for missing had to do with illness AND the care of an infant.

  5. 2- I don't know if you live near a college but there are always college kids looking for wedding cakes, cupcakes, and what not. I have a friend who started her bakery business that way.

3- I agree with Jeanne. It's hard to miss but try not to feel too bad about it. I had to miss Mass twice while Steven was in the hospital and felt awful about it until the priest came by to distribute Communion. He was great about it. God understands. :)

4- Chicken and Dumplings? Yum! Definitely one of my favorite meals as well.
